{"id":18385,"date":"2017-11-06T15:34:16","date_gmt":"2017-11-06T14:34:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/preprod.i4ce.org\/publication\/key-figures-on-climate\/"},"modified":"2022-10-07T12:01:03","modified_gmt":"2022-10-07T10:01:03","slug":"key-figures-on-climate","status":"publish","type":"publication","link":"https:\/\/staging.i4ce.org\/en\/publication\/key-figures-on-climate\/","title":{"rendered":"Key figures on Climate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On the opening of the 23<sup>rd<\/sup> Conference of the Parties on Climate Change (COP 23) which is \u00a0held in Bonn from 6 to 17 November 2017, I4CE-Institute for Climate Economics and the French Ministry of the Ecological and Inclusive Transition are pleased to present <strong>the 2018 edition of <em>Key Figures on climate<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Some key figures from the 2018 edition:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399;\">&#8211; <strong>2016 was globally the warmest year<\/strong> since 1850, with an average temperature increase of 1.1\u00b0C above preindustrial levels;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399;\">&#8211; CO<sub>2<\/sub> emissions per capita in China are now higher than in the EU 28, with the territorial approach<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"#_ftn1\" name=\"_ftnref1\"><\/a><\/span> (<strong>7.6 tCO2\/capita in China against 6.8 tCO2\/capita in the EU 28<\/strong>).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399;\">&#8211; However, with the footprint approach<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"#_ftn2\" name=\"_ftnref2\"><\/a><\/span>, emissions per capita in China are 20% lower than in the EU 28 (<strong>6.6 tCO2\/capita in China, against 8.3 tCO2\/capita in the EU 28<\/strong>);<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399;\">&#8211; In the European Union, greenhouse gas emissions (excluding emissions from land use, land use change and forestry) <strong>increased by 0.5% in 2015 compared to 2014<\/strong>. Between 1990 and 2015, they decreased by <strong>24%<\/strong>;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399;\">&#8211; In 2017, <strong>15% of greenhouse gas emissions<\/strong> are covered by an explicit carbon price mechanism.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>This small-format publication summarizes <strong>the basics to better understand climate change challenges<\/strong>. <strong>Figures and graphs<\/strong> illustrate its causes and impacts, as well as mitigation measures. In particular, <strong>detailed statistics are provided on greenhouse gas emissions<\/strong> and on observed trends in the world, in Europe and in France. This publication has been produced for both the general public and the expert who needs a summary close to hand.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#_ftnref1\" name=\"_ftn1\"><\/a> <span style=\"color: #808080;\">The territorial approach accounts for greenhouse gases physically emitted inside a country<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#_ftnref2\" name=\"_ftn2\"><\/a> <span style=\"color: #808080;\">The carbon footprint approach accounts for emissions from final domestic demand in the country.
