It brings together researchers, decision-makers, <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW204738498 BCX8\">practitioners<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW204738498 BCX8\"> and companies working on adaptation from all over the world. In 2023, the United Nations Environment <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SpellingErrorV2Themed SCXW204738498 BCX8\">Programme<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW204738498 BCX8\"> (UNEP), in partnership with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ouranos.ca\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ouranos<\/a> and the Government of Canada, organized the 7th edition in Montreal<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW204738498 BCX8\">.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"EOP SCXW204738498 BCX8\" data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"TextRun SCXW237721615 BCX8\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW237721615 BCX8\"><strong>I<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">4<\/span>CE<\/strong> was present throughout the week, with two highlights co-organized with our partners:<\/span><\/span><span class=\"EOP SCXW237721615 BCX8\" data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">the 2023 adaptation finance gap update and emerging lessons and best practice on how to bridge the gap: <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/staging.i4ce.org\/evenements\/ecart-entre-besoins-et-financements-disponibles-pour-adaptation-methode-devaluation-nouveaux-chiffre-et-retours-dexperience-climat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">see more informations about this event<\/a>;\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>\u201cSouth\u201d, the new frontiers of adaptation in the \u201cNorth\u201d?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Date : October 3rd, 2023<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>Time: 02.30-04.00 PM (UTC-4) \/\/ 08.<\/strong><strong>30-10.00 PM (CEST)<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>Format : in person and online<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>Partners: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.afd.fr\/en\/adaptaction\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Adapt&#8217;Action de l&#8217;AFD<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2>Description of the event<\/h2>\n<p>Adaptation is often framed as a North-South stream of capacities (finance, human resources, knowledge) flowing through Development Aid framework or through dedicated UNFCCC-related structures such as the Adaptation Fund or the Green Climate Fund.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Of course, efforts are still needed to meet financial commitments and adaptation costs (cf. UNEP adaptation gap report 2022), and to improve research funding that is unequally deployed, especially as regards Africa (Trisos, Adelekan, Totin et al., 2022; Overland et 2021).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>However, Global South as actors in the frontline of adaptation have advanced their capacity to adapt beyond that of countries in the Global North. As an example, Bangladesh epitomizes such an incongruity, by being both one of the most vulnerable and one of the most advanced countries in adaptation. South-South experience sharing is also fast growing (e.g. through LUCCC, LEG, PAS-PNA, LDC Group, etc.), although challenges to overcome language barriers remain (e.g. for francophone Africa).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Conversely, this session aimed at exploring a different stream of knowledge and experience, from \u201cSouth\u201d to \u201cNorth\u201d.
